TENWA is a business chat from Tenda Co., Ltd., a company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. It offers one-to-one and group chats, to-dos created from messages and a list of every uploaded file. Customers and partners can be invited to group chats as guests.

There are no automatic read receipts, which the vendor says pressure recipients to reply. Instead, the recipient chooses when to tell the sender that a message has been seen, with an “I saw it” acknowledgement.

A dashboard counts the “thank you” and “like” stamps (chat stickers) each person sends and receives. Administrators also see message counts and usage time by department and person. The vendor presents these statistics as support for employee mental health and motivation.

A dedicated single-tenant environment for one customer is priced on request, and its database can be encrypted. The vendor says large financial institutions use it. Standard security includes SSL encryption, intrusion detection (IDS), a WAF and third-party security assessments. IP address, device, and file upload and download restrictions are a paid option.

There is no free plan, only a self-service free trial whose data carries over to a paid contract signed within a set period. The per-user plan has no setup fee but has a minimum number of users, and charges are not prorated.
