LINE WORKS is a business chat and groupware service from LINE WORKS Corp., a subsidiary of NAVER Cloud. It keeps the familiar LINE interface and adds administration and security controls. Besides chat and calls, it has a bulletin board, calendar, tasks and an address book, and the Advanced plan adds email and file storage.

Staff can chat with LINE users, such as customers, incoming hires and part-time workers, who need nothing else installed. LINE WORKS is a separate app from LINE, and signing in with a LINE account shares no LINE data.

Administrators manage an organization tree with job titles and concurrent posts, as Japanese companies expect. They can search audit logs, wipe lost phones and limit sign-in to specific devices through an external mobile device management (MDM) product. Certifications include SOC 2 and ISO/IEC 27001.

The free plan limits users, storage, group calls and admin functions. Paid plans have a free trial, and an upgrade cannot be reversed.

Every plan can translate chat messages into each reader’s language. Paid plans add meetings with human interpreters.

Paid plans support SAML 2.0 sign-in through an external identity provider, and LINE WORKS can also act as one for other services.

The API, limited on the free plan, supports bots and custom integrations.

A paid option adds workflow for internal requests and approvals.

The iOS and Mac apps support English, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.
