IIJ Public DNS is a public recursive DNS resolver provided by Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ), one of Japan’s leading internet backbone operators. The service is open to all users and is hosted entirely within Japan.

IIJ Public DNS supports both DNS over TLS (DoT) and DNS over HTTPS (DoH), offering encrypted DNS resolution for improved privacy and protection against eavesdropping or tampering. Unencrypted DNS (UDP/TCP) is not supported.

Unlike DNS resolvers tied to specific ISPs, IIJ Public DNS is available nationwide and designed to help promote secure internet practices across Japan. The service is currently offered as a public beta and may be subject to updates or policy changes over time.
